Part-Time Behavioral Support Specialist - La Mesa, CA

Single Mom in La Mesa is seeking a specialized caregiver to support her 6 year old son with behavioral challenges. She also has a 10 year old daughter, but care will be focused on her son. She has had a wonderful nanny for the last year, but as his needs have become more challenging (they are still seeking a diagnosis) they have realized that a more specialized support person is needed. Mom will be home with you, she really just needs an extra support person to work with her as a team.

Care is needed in the afternoon - evening hours to help with the after school, dinner time, and bed time routines. Mom shares custody with Dad, she has the kids with her Sunday - Wednesday. Male candidates are encouraged to apply!

Schedule:

Ideal schedule is Sunday - Wednesday 4pm - 8pm (16 hours per week minimum)

Open to adding more hours if desired up to 30 hours per week.

Rate:

$40-$45 per hour DOE, paid on payroll

Children in the home:

Boy, 6 - He likes sports and is very athletic. Since starting school he has gotten more interested in drawing and writing. He likes legos. He can be challenging at times and needs a caregiver who is up for the challenge, someone who can match his energy and be really active with him. He can be very sweet, very affectionate, but he hits/throws things sometimes when he is upset, can be destructive. Needs someone who will be unruffled, won’t get triggered and reactive themself and can stay present and calm with him.

Girl , 10 - She is very artistic and performative. Likes singing, dancing, creating her own plays to perform. Enjoys crafts and make believe like playing school. She can thrive on her own and entertain herself. She loves reading and music.

Responsibilities:

If working strictly from 4pm - 8pm, responsibilities will be focused on the boy and his after school routine, facilitating any homework, snack time, driving to a sports practice as applicable. Engage with him and keep him occupied while Mom cooks dinner and spends time with her daughter. Help mom with the evening routine getting them ready for bed, reading to them, etc.

If working more hours, responsibilities could include picking him up from school. Additional hours on Sundays could include tag teaming with Mom to take the kids to fun activities or their sports games.

The biggest need is spending one on one time with the boy and working on his emotional regulation and behavior challenges.

Requirements:

3+ years of professional childcare experience, including experience with kids in this age group and experienced with challenging and aggressive behaviors

Training in ABA or other behavioral techniques is highly preferred

Proactive, patient, active, and extremely reliable

Able to make a long term commitment, would love to have someone stay for several years

Valid Driver’s License, reliable vehicle for transporting children, and clean driving record

Child CPR Certified

Trustline registered or willing to register

Able to work legally in the US

Up to date on vaccinations in preferred, but not required.
