Full-Time Nanny/Family Assistant - Encinitas, CA
Sweet family in Encinitas is seeking a long term nanny/family assistant to work alongside a stay at home mom in the care of their two children and the household. They have an easy going baby boy age 1.5 and a precocious, neurodivergent 6 year old boy. This role involves tag teaming with Mom to care for both kids and pitching in around the house with things like laundry, dishes, and organizing. The 6 year old attends nature school for the first part of the day and does some homeschooling with Mom in the afternoons. Their parenting style is connection first, validating feelings while holding necessary boundaries. Their ideal nanny leads with empathy and compassion, has a passion for working with neurodivergent children, is detail oriented, and maintains a calm demeanor. They are seeking a 1 year minimum commitment with the hope to form a long term relationship as they see their need for a nanny lasting indefinitely.
Bonus if you have previous experience working with neurodivergent children and/or training in a related therapy.
*Must be up to date on standard vaccines including Tdap

Schedule and Pay Rate:
Several options are available for 40 hours per week.
Option 1: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm. As the 6 year old attends nature school from 9/10am - 1/2pm, this schedule has a bit less time focused on his care and would pay around $33-$35 per hour DOE.
Option 2: Monday - Friday split shift schedule, 8am - 10am and 1pm - 7pm. This would focus more of the nanny’s time on their 6 year old and would offer a pay rate of $35-$40 per hour DOE.
Option 3: Monday - Friday 12:30pm - 8:30pm. This schedule would also focus more time on the care of their 6 year old and would pay $35-$40 per hour DOE.
Opportunities for more hours for a weekend or date night if desired.

Willing to offer guaranteed hours, paid vacation, paid sick days and holidays.

Children:
Boy, 1.5 - He is a happy, easy going toddler. He is in speech therapy for some delays. He is on a good nap routine and usually sleeps from 12/12:30-3pm.
Boy, 6 - He is neurodivergent without an exact diagnosis at this time. He is very verbal, affectionate, extremely smart, curious, and intellectually advanced for his age (he was reading at age 2.5!) Traditional schooling is not a good fit for him so he is currently attending a half day nature school and homeschooling a few hours per day with Mom. He is also in occupational therapy, the therapist will come to the home and nanny will participate in sessions. His main struggles are in executive functioning, emotional regulation, impulse control, and daily self-care. At home, he currently requires a high level of adult support with things like eating, hydration, dressing, handwashing, toothbrushing, and transitions. They approach these struggles with empathy, connection, playfulness, and creativity. When he does have a meltdown over something he is struggling with, he will cry and whine and it typically only lasts for 5-10 minutes. He has never shown any aggressive behaviors. He currently is on a limited diet due to an esophagus issue.
Pets in the home:
None
Responsibilities:
The family routine currently looks as follows: Kids wake around 7:30am, have breakfast, get dressed and ready for the day. Nanny will drive 6 year old to drop off at nature school around 9am. Come back to the house and help out with household tasks, play with 1.5 year old, help prepare his lunch and put him down for nap around 12/12:30. 6 year old gets picked up at 1 or 2pm and comes home, has lunch/snack. Mom typically does some homeschool learning time with him from 3-4pm. The rest of the afternoon is play time, then dinner and bedtime routines. Once a week OT will be at the home in the afternoon, Mom also takes 6 year old to executive function coaching one afternoon per week. The nanny will tag team with Mom in caring for both kids and completing household tasks as needed.
With his busy brain, the 6 year old requires a lot of support to complete simple tasks like eating a meal, drinking his water, or washing his hands. These things are sooooo boring to him and he would rather be playing, reading, or doing anything else! He responds well to a playful approach to make these necessary daily tasks more fun and a lot of empathy for the fact that doing them is a challenge for him. Attention to detail in his feeding is very important as he is currently on a limited diet due to a medical issue. Must be conscious of cross contamination with other foods in the home and be sure to only feed him approved foods.
Nanny will need to use their own care for transporting him to and from school with a mileage reimbursement. Please have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle.
